I create ‘Face Hats’, characters which are protected by elaborate masks which I make and crochet. As well as my colourful masks, I construct worlds, atmospheres, and environments, by combining comical, cartoon-like props with these characters.
I try to make light of bad situations, with the use of comical weapons, and bright colours, to contrast with a modern-day world which can harsh, cruel and grey.
In my work, I feel drawn to cartoons that include Rick and Morty, Midnight Gospel and Adventure Time. The weird, bizarre and extraordinary illustrations and animations from these television programmes have impacted my art and the way I draw limbs and figures, as well as creating my own characters.
I am a recent graduate from the BA course at Bath Spa University, Contemporary Arts practice. And I am now studying a Masters in Fine Art.
